Recently I was able to pose a set of questions to Enid senior soccer players Maria Lerma and Katelyne Carrillo. Both players are crucial to Enid’s success on the pitch and are big reason’s why the Pacers are currently enjoying a 7-4 season and hold a 3-2 record in district play, good for fourth place in District 6A-3.

Enid is scheduled to take on third place Bixby Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Enid.

So let’s get to it shall we?

VYPE: What has been the most memorable part of the soccer season this year?

Carrillo: Probably when we got second place in the Stillwater Cup.

Lerma: Whenever coach Tre shot the ball and it bounced back off the post and hit our goalie (Mazzie Priest) on the head. Funniest moment ever.

VYPE: What first got you interested in playing soccer?

Carrillo: My parents pet me in it when I was four years old and I guess from there I just loved it.

Lerma: Craig Liddell for sure. He has this passion for the game that just spreads around. He has inspired me to be the best.

VYPE: Who is the funniest girl on the team?

Carrillo: Mazzy Priest

Lerma: Deinitely Mazzy Priest. She always has something funny to say.

VYPE: What team do you enjoy playing against the most? Why?

Carrillo: Ponca, who doesn’t enjoy playing their rival?

Lerma: Ponca City, they are one of our top rivals. It’s always good competition on the pitch.

VYPE: Favorite Super Hero?

Carrillo: Spiderman

Lerma: My mom. She’s always there no matter what. She is my biggest supporter.

VYPE: Any superstitions? If so what are they?

Carrillo: Uhhh…I don’t think so

Lerma: I have a game day playlist that I listen to before every game. It gets me mentally prepared.

VYPE: We line up the entire Enid girls soccer team and run a 100-meter dash. Who wins?

Carrillo: Kylee Vestal or Jill Nicholas.

Lerma: It would definitely be a tie between Jill Nicholas and Hudson Childs.

VYPE: The best thing about being an Enid Pacer is?

Carrillo: The fact that we aren’t just “Enid Pacers.” We are a family.

Lerma: Best thing about being an Enid Pacer is being so close to my teammates and classmates. We’re not a very small school but we are small enough to become close with everyone.
